Proper etiquette per Miss Manners would suggest a simple Condolence card with perhaps a bouquet of Lilies for sincerity.

If you were drunk, then you meant to get drunk, and therefor it was no accident. Let someone else tell them.

You can't get drunk accidentally - that would be a choice.
So you couldn't say it was by accident - it would be by reckless stupidity and you'd have plenty of time to reflect on that while in jail.
