this is for a story i'm writing. could a villa succesfully be built in the moors in britain?

in other words would there be solid foundations in the moors or would it sink into the soil?

Update:

i should mention that the setting of this takes place back in the 1920's and i understand that now the moors are protected land. also, i researched villa's and there are some Romano-British villas from the Roman Empire and also some 18th century villas.

There are villages and farm buildings made of stone on the moors. However, it would be difficult to obtain permission to build a new house in an area of outstanding natural beauty.

A "villa" sounds a bit too Mediterranean for a house on the moors.

No more construction is permitted on the Moors in Britain....

You might should look at a map.....the wild haggis of the Southern Mountains in Scotland have spread into Yorkshire and the North Moors, and all that land is now protected because they are endangered as a species...

Yea we i think use the word Manor here as would be equivalent to a villa.

And yes i believe such houses can and have been built in the Moors.

In Britain we do not build 'villa's'...maybe in Spain, Portugal, Italy...but not Britain.................... and no you would not be allowed to build anything on the moors............ it is green belt land, you would not be given planning permission to build..............

As far as building on any soil, they use what is called a 'raft' or a floating raft, or they drill down to solid ground and build on 'piles' and any soil, peat, bog can be built on using that
