Vaikunda Ekadasi is on 23/12/2012 or 24/12/2012?

This question is only for those who believe Hindu religion; others may kindly ignore the question.

As per Panchangam Ekadhashi starts at 03.00 hours of 23/12/2012 and ends at 05.00 hours of 24/12/2012. Then the Vaikunda Ekadasi is supposed to be only on 23/12/2012. But temples like Shri. Ranganathaswami Temple, Srirangam, Shri. Parthasarathy Temple, Triplicane, Chennai are adopting this only on 24/12/2012. Where in some other temples are following the same on 23/12/2012. How such differences? Can someone explain on this.

Update:

As opined by one other contributor, whose identity is closed, I am obliged to correct the spelling of starting word as 'Vaikuntha' instead of 'Vaikunda'. Also let me thank the member for pointing out the error.

Update 2:

@ ....... (Shri. Sastry)

From your disclosure, we are coming much closer. I am also of your age 67, as well my daughter in law hails from Kanchipuram. So it is better time you open your mail, so we can have more correspondences.

Vaikuntha Ekadasi. It falls on 23rd for Advaitha or Smaatha people and Maadhva people. For Vaishnavites Vaikuntha Ekadasi is on 24th. Because Sri Vaishnavites do not accept ''Vidhdhi' ' ( touch with the previous tithi).

'Kunda' means an earthen pot. It is not Vaigunda or Vaikunda or something like that.

It is VAIKUNTHA. Be proud of our Tamil. But do not pollute Sanskrit words with improper pronounciation. There is power in those letters that are brought together by our ancient Rishis. You could be adversely affected if you do not say those words correctly.

Thank you, Learner for your kind words. My name is Sastry, 67 and I live in Kanchipuram, TN.

I did not disclose my name as Sastry prejudices many people in India. We Indians are divided by Caste, Region, Religion and many beliefs we hold. God Bless Us All.

Mr. Shaytaan Hater, Hinduism the vedas also says,

    prajnānam brahma- "Brahman is knowledge"

ayam ātmā brahma- "The Self (or the Soul) is Brahman"

tat tvam asi- Thou art that" ("You are the Supreme")

sachchidānanda brahma- Brahman or Brahma is existence, consciousness, and bliss

    सर्वं ह्येतद् ब्रह्मायमात्मा ब्रह्म सोयमात्मा चतुष्पात्

sarvam hyetad brahmāyamātmā brahma soyamātmā chatushpāt – Mandukya Upanishad, verse-2

All indeed is this Brahman; He is Atman; He has four steps/quarters.

Yajur Veda Mundakopanishad 3.2.4 reads: This Self is not attained by one devoid of strength, nor through delusion, nor through knowledge unassociated with monasticism. But the Self of that knower, who strives through these means, enters into the abode that is Brahman.

Bright, existing very close, moving in the heart; great and the support of all; in Him is all the universe centered around. All that moves, breathes and blinks. Know Him who is both with form and without form, the most adorable, the Highest of beings, the One beyond the limits of the finite mind.

    Atharva Veda, Mandukya Upanishad

This Self is the Lord of all beings, the King of all beings. As the spokes are held together in the hub and in the rim of a wheel, just so all beings, all creatures, all worlds, all lives, are held together in the Self.

    Yajur Veda, Brahadaranyaka Upanishad

Please counter check with the vedas before you copy and paste something from somewhere. All the verses which you have provided is not a complete phrase. Zakir Naik played with you guys by only uttering a small portion of the vedas. The concept of god in the vedas is mentioned above, we dont belief in a god who has a shin, legs, emotions and etc, that type of god is not a god, he is just the human. Please do not misunderstand the concept of devas and god. Devas are higher beings mentioned in the vedas, they can be similar to angels or an alien form of being. Devas should be respected as per the vedas.

    1. The oldest of all the vedas is Rigveda. It is also the one considered most sacred by the Hindus.

The Rigveda states in Book 1, hymn 164 and verse 46: "Sages (learned Priests) call one God by many

    names."

    [Rigveda 1:164:46]

    2. The Rigveda gives several different attributes to Almighty God. Many of these are mentioned in

    Rigveda Book 2 hymn 1.

Among the various attributes of God, one of the beautiful attributes mentioned in the Rigveda Book II hymn 1 verse 3, is Brahma. Brahma means ‘The Creator’. Translated into Arabic it means Khaaliq. Muslims can have no objection if Almighty God is referred to as Khaaliq or ‘Creator’ or Brahma. However if it is said that Brahma is Almighty God who has four heads with each head having a crown, Muslims take strong exception to it.

Describing Almighty God in anthropomorphic terms also goes against the following verse of Yajurveda:

    "Na tasya Pratima asti"

"There is no image of Him."

    [Yajurveda 32:3]

Another beautiful attribute of God mentioned in the Rigveda Book II hymn 1 verse 3 is Vishnu. Vishnu means ‘The Sustainer’. Translated into Arabic it means Rabb. Again, Muslims can have no objection if Almighty God is referred to as Rabb or 'Sustainer' or Vishnu. But the popular image of

9[Atharveda Samhita vol 2 William Dwight Whitney page 910]

Vishnu among Hindus, is that of a God who has four arms, with one of the right arms holding the Chakra, i.e. a discus and one of the left arms holding a ‘conch shell’, or riding a bird or reclining on a snake couch. Muslims can never accept any image of God. As mentioned earlier this also goes against Svetasvatara Upanishad Chapter 4 verse 19.

    "Na tasya pratima asti"

"There is no likeness of Him"

The following verse from the Rigveda Book 8, hymn 1, verse 1 refer to the Unity and Glory of the Supreme Being:

    3. "Ma cid anyad vi sansata sakhayo ma rishanyata"

"O friends, do not worship anybody but Him, the Divine One. Praise Him alone."

    [Rigveda 8:1:1]10

    4. "Devasya samituk parishtutih"

"Verily, great is the glory of the Divine Creator."

    [Rigveda 5:1:81]11

    24th is for Srivaishnavas only.

For all others it falls on 23rd.

Difference is because those were unscientific and bears no importance.
