Blotting paper and a hot iron used to be the trick - place the blotting paper over the wax, then press with the iron. the iron melts the way, which is then absorbed by the paper. Kitchen towel would probably do as blotting paper is now rare.

Very simple. Since wax is soluble in water, you can dab the area with water and let it remain there for some time. Then just rub the area as if picking it out of the carpet. Or you can simply get a cloth, stick it on the wax and strip it out.

One of your replies suggests blotting paper and an iron, but they are talking about candle wax.. hair removal wax is totally different. It isn';t even wax, it's basically a concentrated sugar solution, so your best bet is to use an extraction cleaner, like the rug doctor.. if you can't get one of them, or its only a small spot, then get a jug of hot water, and a load of towels... keep dropping a few spoons of hot water on the wax, quick rub, then put the towel on, and tread on it to absorb the water... keep doing this, and you will get it out.
