This really depends on what you plan to do with it.
I'm a big macbook fan and I use it for college work as well. Unfortunatly, most of the software we need runs on windows 7 (I started a few years ago, windows 8 wasn't out yet) and so I had to do quite a bit of tweaking in order for everything to work. So if you plan on using it for work as well as for your personal fun, you should maybe ask the IT helpdesk at your college.
If you only want the laptop for your personal use, it is also a matter of taste and means (btw, if you're a gamer, forget the mac and go to a high power windows 8 machine, it'll work a lot better). If looks is the most important to you, go to a store that sells both win 8 and apple laptops and simply pick one. If comfort of use matters more, I have to say I would go for the macbook, it is more expensive but you pay for high quality software inside. I'll admit, I haven't had a chance to really play with win 8 for more than a few seconds but it seems a lot harder to tweak to your preferences than a mac. But if you've been using windows 7/vista/xp right now, you'll have to take the time to get used to your new machine. Your best bet is to go to a store with proper customer service and try both types out and see what you like best.
Hope it helps

I have a Mac book pro I don't even use, wish you lives near me so I could sell it to you. That's just because I'm a programmer and mostly use windows computers. Anyways macs are great, a little expensive, but worth the price. Windows 8 however is just terrible, it ha so many bugs and what not in it, causes plenty of problems. The reason for this is because its brand new, give it till the summertime before you buy a windows 8 computer. If anything buy a nice mac book pro/air or a windows 7 laptop.

I just want to add, your Mac is an INTEL machine which means it will run Windows. So instead of buying a windows only machine, why not buy a windows and Mac OS 10 machine. Two for the price of one great machine. Remember both operating systems run natively. Just a thought...
