or any ot the Wii periphials(Ex. Guns, etc)
Dude I know nothing about the Wii or Wii U. What does backwards compatible mean? I bought two regular games for my nephew and a gun for the Wii, but just found out he as the Wii U. Im concerned if he will be able to use them.

Yes, your nephew WILL be able to use those regular Wii games (AND the gun as well).
The new Wii U system can be put into "regular Wii mode" where it essentially becomes a regular Wii.
All the Wii games and controllers and such will work when the Wii U is put into that regular "Wii mode".
