My car turns over strong but just doesn't have that final omphhhh to start?

I had the timing belt changed last Aug. and the mechanic told me the spark plugs and wires needed to be changed, but my husband says it's needs a fuel pump.

Its a Kia Sorento, and has been running a little rough. Just trying to figure out if I need to get it towed to the mechanics or try to change the spark plugs.

Ignition work is always performed first if needed before any other problems can be diagnosed. If your owner's manual says to change the spark plugs at 100,000 miles, I would change both the plugs and wires if the car is 10 years old. Use the original equipment Kia spark plug part number specified in your manual. You can easily damage an aluminum engine head by not knowing how to remove the old plugs. Even a professional mechanic runs that risk, so I would have the plugs and wires changed at the Kia dealer.

There are three components to making an engine run. Ignition, Fuel and Timing. One or more is your problem. Very rarely are spark plugs going to make the vehicle not run whatsoever. You can rig a tool to test for spark or buy a spark tester @ Autozone or Oreilly's, which goes on the end of the plug wire. If you have good spark, next you need to test your fuel pressure, Most newer cars have a test port on top of the motor to tap into the fuel line. You can rent or borrow a fuel pressure test gauge. Make sure you have the pressure required for your car. If all tests fine then you must have a timing issue.

Check the plugs And wires. Starter find it And hit it. Check the fuel pump relay. Fuel pumps are expensive And take a good while to replace. He should do it himself because the mechanic will charge 500-1000
