How do I keep my rat warm?

I like to sleep cold so my room is usually cold but I know my rat is cold. I've put an old blanket over her cage, put a smaller blanket inside, and filled a bottle with warm water, wrapped it in a towel and put it in her bottom part of the cage. But I'm afraid she'll be cold still. She also has a fluffy bed, but I don't know if it'd help. I want to keep her warm, how do I do it? It would help to tell me what I can do now, at 1 am, and tomorrow, when I can buy things.

Thank you, so, so much.

As someone said, she NEEDS to have a same-sexed companion. Rats are social and do not do well alone. Two rats will spend all their time together, which includes sleeping, and keeping each other warmer.

Rats actually do a lot better in the cold than they do with heat, though you should ideally keep them at between 60-75F. I would NOT use any electrical heating in the cage as someone suggested. Those have been known to short circuit, plus the wire chord can kill your rat if chewed. As long as you provide enough warm bedding and a nest, as well as keep your cage away from drafts, your rat will be fine. But you definitely need a second rat!

Another rat would be by FAR the best way to keep her warm. Rats are highly social and should always be kept in pairs or groups. If you can, please get her a friend - a FEMALE friend.

In the meantime, you can help keep her warm by giving her lots and lots and LOTS of bedding to shred. Paper towels work well. She will love clean paper of any sort. Try going to places where they sell boxes and supplies for moving, they often have huge piles of clean paper you can buy.

You can buy a heating stone at any pet store that sells reptile supplies. They come in different sizes. I put mine in a piece of face cloth and wired it on the side of the cage close to the bottom so the heat radiates out and the rat won't lay directly on it. If the rat gets too hot,it will move it's bedding away, too cold, it will move its bedding closer. That way, you know exactly how its feeling. :)

You can rip up newspaper and let her build a nest with it , that works really well and it will give her something to do.

Put her in the hallway at nights.
