Is intelligent discussion possible in the Religion & Spirituality section?

Or is it as futile as trying to convert people to your religious beliefs over the internet? :P

I've had some INCREDIBLY intelligent discussions with people from R&S.

That being said, the most ""religious"" a person has ever been in said intelligent discussions is a deist, which is to say she isn't religious at all. Any time I've attempted to converse with somebody further along the believer spectrum, the conversation ended with me trying to correct something stupid they said.

It is possible, but the limits of the Y/A format and the anonymity offered by the Internet have to be taken in to account. The majority of questions posted are from trolls and they receive the flippant answers they deserve, but occasionally a sincere inquiry is made.

There is some intelligent discussion on R&S, but it is so rare that often times I am not prepared to handle it when it arrives. As to conversion, I never have sought to convert others. Only to make them think.

  • Intelligent discussion is possible. You just need a filter to ignore all the nonsense. Consider it like static.
