    let x be the width of border

    (10+2x)(4+2x) => the area of the garden and gravel border

    (10+2x)(4+2x) - 40 => the area of the gravel border

    (10+2x)(4+2x) - 40 = 6(10*4) = 240

    solving

    4x^2+28x-240 = 0

    4(x-5)(x+12) = 0

    x = 5

    so,

    2[(10 + 2x) + (4+2x)] = 68 ft.
