Is Anyone Sick and Tired of Marilyn Monroe?

She's everywhere.

Tacky cartoon poster art, cigarette lighters, t-shirts after t-shirts...

People won't shut up about JFK on the news either. They're nice people and all, but all this marketing is just too much.

Update:

Ran, I don't hate people I don't even know.

Update 2:

There are other actresses with similar harsh fates, but they are hardly mentioned. Jean Seanberg's career was ruined by the FBI authorities only because she favored the civil rights movement, her reaction was a health-related one, she miscarried and shortly after she had a divorce. Several months later she's found dead in a car, and it's been said she has weathered domestic abuse on and off throughout her life. It may have been rumored or there's actually evidence that domestic abuse was one factor relating to her suicide and possibility of murder.

Lupe Velez, another actress, committed suicide after learning she was pregnant and that the father of her child refused to marry her.

    Yeah I understand.

She was a talented very messed up individual. I feel for her, because she was a sad character... but the endless obsession with her is a scary comment on society.

Up until Marilyn, women like her were usually comic relief in the earlier movies.

She was symbolic of the beginning of the brainless bimbo as something to be desired and not laughed at.

And JFK was a decent President who died too soon. Once again, he is more of a symbol than a real person anymore. He symbolized a kind of "rebirth" of America. It was our first "young" president.

People like to cling to the fantasy of what "might have been."
