How long can you delay your period for with the pill without it being unhealthy?
I'm asking this just out of curiosity - I only ever delay mine for a week at most if I need to (eg. going on holiday etc.) and that's not very often (maybe four times a year), so I never delay it for a whole month more. But I'm curious as to how long you'd be able to delay it before it becomes unhealthy to continue doing so. Could you delay it for a year or a couple of months? I'm not planning on trying this at all so I don't need answers telling me not to do it, I'm just really curious as to what happens if you delay it for too long and how long is that too long?

I don't think there are statistics on that as there are many different methods. There is actually a medication available to prevent your period for years and when you want children you stop taking it.
If I recall from what I read you need to come off of it every 3 years to clean your body out then you can go back onto it. I put a link below of one of those typed of medications for your information.
However if your doing it with the normal birth control pills it's not good to do too often as it is putting hormones in your body at a rate that needs to allow your body to clean out monthly.
Once in awhile pushing it for a week or so probably won't hurt anything but it will make your periods irregular for awhile afterwards.

I would say about 3 months. Though Some studies are showing that while on birth control you dont actually need to have a period. They actually have BC now that causes you to have a period only once every 3 months. I.E. Seasonique and then there is Lybrel which you take daily and cease to have periods for up to a year, though I am not sure how healthy that is or how your body would react to that. Main problem is that it can cause spotting etc until your body gets used to it, up to a year.
