Why in Deut 22, is the only mention of God in verse 5?

There are several admonissions to the Jews about their behavior and actions, yet the only time God is mentioned is after verse 5. Was this because of the Goddess fertility religions at the time were threateneing the Jewish religion?

Deuteronomy 22: 1-5 are admonitions to people concerning the property for another. G-d is not mentioned in ever verse of the Bible. Hashem is used in verse 5 Clearly 1-4 are admonitions by G-d as well. It is not "Simon Says". It is not like, "well, we have to take verse 5 seriously because Hashem is mentioned and so 1-4 must be just "suggestions" and so not really something we have to pay attention to". They are all directions from G-d and that seems pretty simple to me.

"Was this because the goddess fertility religions at the time were threatening the Jewish religion?" Umm....what?

    Deuteronomy 22

    New International Version (NIV)

22 If you see your fellow Israelite’s ox or sheep straying, do not ignore it but be sure to take it back to its owner. 2 If they do not live near you or if you do not know who owns it, take it home with you and keep it until they come looking for it. Then give it back. 3 Do the same if you find their donkey or cloak or anything else they have lost. Do not ignore it.

4 If you see your fellow Israelite’s donkey or ox fallen on the road, do not ignore it. Help the owner get it to its feet.

5 A woman must not wear men’s clothing, nor a man wear women’s clothing, for the Lord your God detests anyone who does this.

Very possibly. There were competing religions around that time and all were fighting over the tith....er...believers. Obviously some of the rules were directed at eliminating practices that were permissible in other beliefs. Sodomy being the obvious example.

There must have been a religion back then that either did not care about or encouraged the wearing of feminine clothing by males. It's there for a reason.

Its not like anyone alive today actually knows anything but that passed on. Its like a giant game of broken telephone. Thats why there people walking around thinking there's a special man creating everything around us.

BAD BAD case of broken telephone.

Religion is for people who are scared to live life, so they believe in stories told millions of years ago and have tons of flaws. You shouldn't bother your time with it. Live your life, do what you want and achieve what makes you happy. Nothing should get in the way of that especially not fairy tales.
