Cheap English tack to start out with?
So within this month or next month I will be starting to teach my mare how to ride English. I was wondering if anyone knows any good sites to links for a AP saddle pad, girth, bridle, and a full cheek snaffle bit that are reasonable prices! Reason I do not want to get very expensive things is that my mare is sort of crazy and I do not want to take a chance of buying something expensive and it gets ruined, ripped or broken during the training process. I do not mind having to leather condition the bridle every week or after every ride if it needs it, any suggestions? I already have my permanent tack picked out for when shes doing good in training so just cheap stuff haha
My mares a quarter horse if you need to know for size purposes.

Second hand every time. Ebay, Craigslist, Equine.com, Google, "local" tack shops. Never know what you'll find. Though the local tack shops I'm becoming less and less a fan of, and turn more toward eBay, because people will gouge you in the eyes with their prices if they can.
Second hand will be loved, but that's good. It'll be soft and supple, easy to work with, and if you get quality used materials it will still give you many years of service.
EBAY! You can't beat it.

Even the Whiz isn't wrong! Buy top-quality used tack that has been kept in good condition. We bought a used Stuebben Siegfried about 20 years ago for $500, about a quarter of the new price. We had a good saddlemaker restuff it and put on new billets. It's still worth what we paid. Our heirs can use it in 50 or 100 years, if nobody ruins it.
If your mare is sort of crazy you should perhaps be focussing on more ground training. Do you own a surcingle? Long reins? You might try to get several different snaffle bits and various kinds of bridles.

Don't listen to what that one person said about it being "gay" that you'll be riding a quarter horse english. Buying used tack that is still in good condition will be your best bet. Check ebay. They might have something or go to Jeffers.com. I don't think they have used tack, but some of their prices are decent.

Second hand would be better than buying a cheap tack set that will most likely not fit right and will fall apart. I've seen cheap reins break when riding after only a few uses. They are cheap for a reason. Much much better to buy second hand.

Why spend the money twice? I have done this many times...only to kick myself later for not biting the bullet and just buying the good stuff to begin with. especially the saddle. You get exactly what you pay for. they may look nice but more often than not really mess up the horses back...expecially if it is in training and being ridden alot. Save your money and buy the best quality tack you can afford.
