Lexmark X2580 Printer will not print or copy. Will still scan.?

Yesterday, I was printing a paper when my printer attempted to suck an already-printed page back in. The printer said it was jammed, so I cleared the page out and hit the paper feed button as instructed. Now, when I try to print or copy anything, the printer does nothing. It says the printing job has started, but the paper is not even sucked in. The printer makes no noises as it usually does. It is not as though the printer tries to take the paper in and cannot. The hardware all appears to be intact. I have tried restarting the printer and the computer as well as uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers. Any more suggestions? (My computer is a dell inspiron running windows 7 64-bit, if that makes a difference)

That sounds serious. If the printer tried to pull an already printed sheet back into the printer, then either a mechanical or electronic failure has occurred, because the printer is supposed to feed the paper in only one direction. You may have a bad paper feed drive belt or motor, or the electronics for powering it have died. Since the scanner works off of different electronics, that's why it still works.

If there are no errors on the printer like a jam or other malfunction (you still might want to check for any torn pieces of paper inside the printer), then I'd say you have a serious mechanical or electronic failure that would need a tech to look at to see if it's repairable, but it may be cheaper to obtain another printer (used or new).
