What did jesus die for?

I want to know what was the point of his death. Christianity still beleives in original sin and that people sin so what was the purpose of jesus's death. He did not die for the sins of people if the sins still exist in christian beleifs. I have also heard it was to protect people from god's wrath but really? You want to pray to something that wanted to kill you and all yor ancestors unless he begot a being out of his essence and made it a man so that the man would be crucified to appease him?

This is a very hard question to answer. God is mysterious, so we dont know everything. The way i understand it, Jesus had to die so that he could wash away our sin. Original sin is wiped away by baptism. You know how in the old testament, the jews had to sacrifice animals to wipe away their sin? Well, Jesus' death was the ultimate sacrifice: we never have to sacrifice animals again. It was also a way for God to show that he would give his only son for us, but does not ask the same of us (illustrated by when God told abraham to sacrifice his only son, isaac, but stopped him at the last moment). Its very hard to explain, i suggest asking a priest, or a friend who really knows what they're talking about. Or, read the Bible.

Christ was resurrected, which means we can become resurrected also and come back into gods presence. He overcame another affect of the fall of Adam and Eve in the fact that he took upon himself the sins of the world so we might become clean, spiritually. Man are punished for their own sins, and not for Adams transgressions, there is no scripture that says I will be punished for Adam's choices. I am simply born into the effects of that transgression as an innocent person. Like Al Capone was a notorious gangster and committed many crimes and was guilty, would it be lawful or even fair to suggest that his son was a guilty convict at birth ? Of course not! so why would a perfectly fair god do exactly the same thing with me ? Obviously he wouldn't. The fact of the matter is, is that Adam and eve could not have children in the garden of Eden, if that wasn't the case, god being a perfect god, perfect in knowledge would have provided a way for that to happen, how can a person suggest that a mere man can thwart and throw into chaos the plans of god ? The bible teaches us that Christ was foreordained to atone,

    1 Peter 1:18-20

    18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;

19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,

Verse 20 means he was especially and divinely pointed and set up towards doing what he did on earth before he got there. Like I said it was all a part of the plan of god, for a christian to suggest anything less takes away from god and his attributes of perfection. Adam was supposed to fall, Christ was supposed to atone and die.

Alex....If there never was a " Jesus " then there never was a death..This whole story was cooked up by so called Prophets to control the masses...Look at the religions today who preach " Salvation "...

Control, control and more control....If you so much as mention Evolution you are looked at as if you committed a murder...You are right in saying " Why would you pray to a Deity that would kill you and your entire family " if you did not except him as your God..?? It is just a bunch of nonsense with no factual Evidence any of it ever took place...You cannot reach a "Point"out of nonsense....

That is the Point. Jesus died for all off our sins. Christians, born again are not pure white Lilly's. We do sin by or not by mistake. But once we confess the sin and ask for forgiveness. He is quick to forgive us.

As far as Jesus Sacrifice for us on the cross, We needed His sinless Blood to wash away our Sins. His Blood is on the Mercy seat in Heaven.

    God Bless Ya,

The mythical story of Jesus' crucifixion is a horrible, sadistic story of human sacrifice. Christians even celebrate it by ceremoniously drinking his blood and eating his body. This is ritual vampirism and cannibalism. The idea of blood sacrifice for vicarious atonement (i.e. the mythical Jesus dying for other people's sins) is immoral -- punishing the innocent to free the guilty. But, it's good marketing.

Christians say that their mythical Jesus Christ loves us, yet he will have us tortured forever if we don't say or think the right magic words. That's not love; that's extortion. Christianity is a cult that emphasizes a story about what happens after we die -- whether we end up happy forever or tortured forever.

All reliable evidence points to Jesus Christ being just a myth. There is no reliable evidence that Jesus even existed, and significant evidence that he didn't. The evidence is in the Bible, the other religions of the time, and the lack of writings about Jesus by historians of the time.

The story of Jesus can be shown to be just a myth created to fulfill prophesy, cobbled together out of stories from the Old Testament and previous gods and myths -- created in the 40's and 50's by Paul of Tarsus (who exhibited symptoms of epilepsy and had delusions of Christ talking to him), the other apostles, the unknown authors of the gospels in the 70's or later, and many other people. The reliable evidence for this is overwhelming.

Paul and the other epistle writers don't know any biographical details of Jesus' life, or even the time of his earthly existence. They don't refer to Bethlehem, Nazareth, Galilee, Calvary or Golgotha — or any pilgrimages to what should have been holy sites of Jesus' life. They also don't mention any miracles that Jesus was supposed to have worked, his virgin birth, his trial, the empty tomb, or his moral teachings. To them Jesus was largely a sky-god, who existed in the spiritual past.

If Jesus had actually existed, Paul would have written about his life, disciples, and teachings. Paul did not write about any of this. Note that to Paul, Peter was another (competing) epistle writer. Paul referred to James as the Lord's brother, not Jesus' brother. This is much like people of a religion who refer to each other as brothers. Paul wrote (in Romans 16:25-26, Galatians 1:11,12) that he knew Jesus through revelation, which is another term for fantasy and delusions. We can also tell that people were accusing Paul of lying, because he attempted to defend himself in Romans 3:5-8.

If Jesus had actually existed, the gospels would have been written in first person format. Instead, they were written in third person fiction format like a Harry Potter story, with Matthew and Luke extensively plagiarizing from Mark. The gospels don't even claim to be eyewitness accounts, and were written in Greek - which the disciples would not have known. In fact, there are no claimed eyewitness or contemporary accounts of Jesus - anywhere. All we have are hearsay witnesses.

If the Jesus story were true, his trial would have been legal. Instead, the purported trial was illegitimate under both Roman and Jewish law.

If Jesus had actually existed, at least one of the approximately 30 local historians of the first century would have written about him. No historian of the first century (including Josephus and Philo of Alexandria) wrote about him or his disciples.

    Therefore Jesus didn't exist.

The Jesus story also shows extensive similarities to other myths of the time (especially Horus, Mithra, Osiris, and Dionysus). For instance, baptism into the death and resurrection of Osiris washed away sins so the soul could obtain the best place in heaven. Some early Christians attributed these similarities to Satan who went back in time and created the religions that "copied" Christianity.

Jesus is worshiped on Sunday because he is a sun god, like over a dozen others whose birthdays were also on the old winter solstice of December 25, when the sun is “reborn.”

There were also over a dozen other deities and saviors who were resurrected (often after violent deaths). Christianity just told the story the best, and managed to get control of the government under Constantine.

For much more evidence, see the links. There are also several good books on this, including:

"Nailed: Ten Christian Myths that Show Jesus Never Existed At All"

    by David Fitzgerald

"The Jesus Puzzle" by Earl Doherty

"Not the Impossible Faith" by Richard Carrier

And if anybody still thinks that Jesus actually existed, please send the information on the reliable evidence supporting this position (not just somebody's opinion).

Some religions require human sacrifice so that the crops grow and the weather is good. In Christianity Jesus is their human sacrifice so that they can use the virgins for something else.

For nothing in the real world, just as every other fictional character.

He died so he could be resurrected, and then his resurrection lets us be resurrected after we die.
