Dropped phone into water, now screen won't work. Help?

My phone got dropped into water for only a second or two- I rescued it quickly- and I took the battery and SIM card out and let it air dry. Now it's been a few days and when I put the card and battery in and turn it on, the screen and buttons light up white, but no images appear on screen. The start-up music tones are choppy.

Have I ruined my phone forever?? I just got it maybe a month ago and I feel terrible for ruining it so quickly... just my luck! Anyway, any info you have will be greatly appreciated!!!!

Update:

oh and I forgot to mention that yes I tried the rice thing and I it only worked part way. before that it wouldn't turn on, but now the screen lights up white, after I put in in the rice.

I did this to my phone, and thought it was a goner, so I bought a new one. I used the new one for about 2 weeks, and decided to give my old phone one last try, just to get all my pictures back (there was NO way I was giving up on the cute pictures of my boyfriend and I). I turned it on, and it worked fine. Not a single problem! So I'd say just throw it in some rice and be patient, maybe just a few days, and try again.

Also, Walmart carries a water damage rescue kit, it's my savior. It's about $5 and reusable, you throw your device in the provided bag with the provided sponge/rock/blob thing, I'm not real sure what it is, and when it turns from orange to green, you take your device out and it should be good as new! If not, it's probably time for a new phone. Then when you're done, let the bag air dry and put the blob thing in the microwave until it turns back to orange and save it for next time your phone falls in a puddle!

Rice rarely works. The water has permanently altered some of the phone components and internal damage will continue to progress.

In general, water damage is as fatal to electronic devices as being burnt or crushed; the only difference is that there is little or no cosmetic damage.

Your only real and lasting fix is to replace the phone. Professional repair outlets generally won't touch water-damaged devices with a barge-pole as such devices are impossible to safely offer a warranty on afterwards due to continuing and unpredictable failures.

Power it off immediately so nothing shorts out. Then fill a bowl with dry rice and bury your phone in the rice for several hours. Up to 24. The rice will absorb the water and free moisture and dry it out. Then try it again. It might be too late, but if not this is a very good trick.

Get a temp for now, if possible. Put your phone is some rice and let it rest a few days. Try to power it on. If it doesn't work ....you may have to call up insurance if you have it. Good luck

till u have the particular gadget to have the potential to eliminate the n8 battery on the instant away, im afraid its too late. however the rice technique purely buys u time beyond regulation. Time purchase a sparkling telephone and be extra careful next time.
