I was, it was horrible! But I stood up for myself and had a fight with the one that most hated me!

A slightly bigger boy used to wait for me walking home from school and take my money or he'd threaten to beat me up...I finally told my dad and he talked to me about there are always bullies in this world and unless you stand up to them they won't go away...that's all he said. So after thinking about it for a few days I finally fought him...took a couple good punches but I got a good shot that bloodied his lip...the fight ended right after that and never had another problem with him...we even became friends after that....taught me a lesson that served me throughout my life and played no small part in making me into a confident young man. I think the recent emphasis on STOP BULLYING does kids a disservice...bullying in life is a fact of life (whether as elementary school kids or working adults), the sooner you learn to take care of it yourself the sooner it becomes a non issue.

I was always bullied... elementary school, middle school, high school. In elementary school I had lots of friends, but a few specific girls tried to pick fights with me. I felt hurt by it but I eventually stood up for myself. In middle school I had friends but that's when the whole 'popularity' thing started creeping up and I wasnt playing along, so I got picked on by a lot more people. Eventually I stood up for myself. They were still mean to me but definitely didnt pick on me as much. Finally, in high school, I wasnt considered 'cool' or 'popular' but I still had friends and didnt get bullied. Just when I thought the cycle had finally ended, I got bullied by a gang of girls... I was in 12th grade and they were in 10th (i look much younger than them so they didnt know i was actually older). It was on a public place with kids from school AND random adults... it was really bad... and I made it worse! I donno...they kept calling me names and stuff, and it would've been smarter for me to just walk away (I had the chance!) but I HAD to get all sensitive and fight back (this was one of those times when it was better to NOT fight back). Obviously I CANT fight against these girls cuz they've actually been in fights while I - the sheltered 'good girl' - have never been in a real fight. In this case ultimately what made me feel WORSE was not their bullying but my own stupidity. I feel like I should've known better.

I'm sorry you were bullied. :( I was shy and quiet and when I was in first grade a boy in 3rd/4th used to push me around on the playground. I don't have any vivid memories of it, though. Just that, although I loved sports, I didn't want to go out for recess.

I was homeschooled for the majority of my life but I did get bullied when I went to church. I didn't have the guts to tell her off since she was my best friend. Anything I said or did was held against me anyways. Good for you, though. Standing up for yourself :)

Yes. 2 years. It was horrible. By the time it was over, my self esteem and confidence were shattered and I was socially withdrawn and paranoid - I began to suspect everyone's motive as wanting to cause me harm.
Source(s): It was just terrible. I think for a time my mind broke. I'm better now. Much better. - ?Lv 68 years ago
