what to expect for golf tryouts?
i just started golfing this year, ive been using a cheap set of beginner clubs my dad got from Dick's and i shot in the high-mid 80s. Im getting new clubs for christmas the Callaway Razr x irons (which i tried out at the local golf shop and i absolutely loved them) The ball absolutely flew with these things. NOW, i was wondering what do i need to shoot/ what i can expect to shoot to make the JV Golf team for my highschool? THANKS!!

Check out your school and talk to the coach. But, from experience, I played Golf for my school on the JV team. I shot 56 at the tryouts. I made it on like the 8th spot and played on the 9th seed out of nine for the first two matches. Then when I felt comfortable and started to shoot high forties I got moved to starting number 5. You should make JV in the high 80's. I will be number one on JV this year, and I went from averaging in the 50's to an 11 handicap. Its amazing how great of an experience playing golf for your school is.
Good Luck in the Tryouts. They aren't too bad, but they do apply pressure. Talk to the coach and get an overview of the skills he is looking for and you should be set.

During my first golf tryouts last year, my coach spent the first day on the range with us to see how our fundamentals, and ball-striking were. During this day, we only used irons and wedges. Day two we hit the range again working on drivers and woods, then went to the putting green doing basic chipping and putting drills. Days 3-5 he put us into foresomes based on age and skill. We played nine holes each of these 3 days. Finally he took our averages for the three days and considered our fundamentals when he made his selections. Good Luck!

Most important be calm and don't try to hit hard. each club has a distance you can hit, remember that. If there is a water hazard or difficult situation and go for the safe side. Par is a great score.
