the name is the same but thats all. there's nothing similar about the characters or the story. so yes, its entirely fair and that doesn't count as stealing. its not like she named him darth vader.

Close to each fable author borrows bits and portions from different works. Tolkien could be regarded a total plagiarist if anyone had ever copyrighted European folk memories or Norse mythology. He sincerely inserted entire reports from different sources into his own works. I don't consider it's as so much of a stretch as some people do to advocate that J.Okay.R. Will have noticeable this film and borrowed the title or been influenced via The Worst Witch. There are plenty of people world wide that love cheaply produced, unhealthy films from other international locations (myself being one) and she can have referenced it as a laugh; who is aware of? If I had been her i might deny it for the sake of now not being sued but, then again, Harry Potter isn't an distinct name and probably it relatively is just accident. The one one who knows in reality J.K.R.

I saw the movie Troll when it first came out in the theaters. It totally sucked. And the story is nothing like the Harry Potter stories.
I'm not really a Harry Potter fan, but that is cinematic gold compared to "Troll".

Not only is Harry a common name, so is Potter. I'd also point out that the name is where the two mediums stop having anything in common.

There is no other commonality. Harry Potter is not the name of the wizard in The Troll anyway.

Interesting. However her sheer volume of work and imagination far outstrips anything this movie did. The name is quite common in the UK, perhaps if she had used "Joe Blow" would you be happier?

If she did steal the idea, I don't think she would be stupid enough to use the same name :l
