Want to replace rear on 50 ford?
This car has no overdrive and about a 3.7 rear. I want to get something more mileage friendly that will fit without a major problem. Is there any one swap that is best for this objective?

A late 50's F-100 rear end ( a Ford 9 inch ) is almost a direct bolt in for a 50 Ford pickup. Then most any 9 inch center section can be installed to get the gear ratio you want very easily.
The Maverick rear is a good choice for the 50 car. I have used a 57 to 59 Ford car rear end under a 50 Ford" (Deuce @ http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/rear-end-swap-1950...
The Ford 9" would be a good choice, there are a lot of ratio's out there to pick from and replacing the speedometer drive gears will correct the error. I am sure there is a key some place to help work out that small problem.

Suggestion. Keep this classic collectible car bone stock. If you want fuel economy, get a Prius.
The current trend with collector cars is that they are worth the most amount of money if they are left as close to the factory original configuration as possible. Start customizing or modifying the car and the value goes down significantly.
You don't get one of these cars if you fuel economy.
