  • Title problem?

I want to buy an old car. On the title is the engine number, not the correct vin found on the body. I think the body tag is the proper number to use. I have been told that in the "old days" this was common to see on a title. However anyone buying n old car that has had an engine swap would not have a title that matches any number on the car. How hard is this to fix, could a buyer insist he get a title with the correct numbers?

  • Question about hopping up a 1950 ford?

I have a 50 ford coup. It's a six, and there isn't much I can find to improve its performance. It's not bad now, but not really suited for highway driving. Over 55 it's screaming due to the rear gear ratio. What type of rear could I switch into it without too much trouble.

  • Anyone know about tinnitus?

Have had this for 19 years. Now that I am getting older other things are falling apart. Doctor sent me in for an MRI to look at a bump growing on my arm. 90 minutes for 9 pictures in two colors. This machine was louder than the source of the tinnitus. I was corked up with plugs, which did no good. After 20 minutes I told them I was done and to let me out or I would claw my way out. They acted shocked I found it too loud, even though I told them about the tinnitus. Now it's worse. They are willing to put me out next time. Question: are your ears off while unconscious?

  • Electrical wiring concerns?

Buying a new house, maybe. Builder wired up house and in the pantry there are three junction boxes next to each other. I have never seen where a new house had to do this. Is wire so expensive that they had to splice three lines to continue wiring the house? Seems like they used wire they bought in 50 foot rolls and everything ended in the pantry. When I inquired I was told that they were for undercounter lighting. Really? Three junction boxes? Then they had to open up the wall from two sides in order to fish a wire to the pantry. I realize that it probably isn't a code issue, but for over 225k you would think they could do a better job. Should I walk or am I too picky?

  • Cinder block problems?

One wall contains seven cinder block cracks that have stair stepped between three and five levels. They go in all directions, even split the cinder blocks. The cracks have caused the stucco to come off, but I don't see any bowing of the wall. Should I be concerned? We were going to buy this house.

  • Child custody problem looming?

My wife is Canadian but now has us citizenship. Our sons born in California. I am disabled and 60, she is in her 40s. She has decided to divorce and says she wants to move to San Diego. I am in San Francisco. I have been primary caregiver since she works. Her lawyer is trying to seek primary custody to prevent her from paying support. I fear this is step one in eventually removing them to Canada. What can I do to prevent this? Could she just go to Canada anyway since she and the boys could claim citizenship? If she does this is it impossible to get them back? Is a no holes barred fight to retain full or joint custody my only option? Even if I have joint custody, would Canada reunite me with them and recognize an American divorce agreement if they all have Canadian citizenship?

  • Why do they still provide 800 numbers?

Almost everyone I know uses cell phones for everything. Cell phones don't care if you are calling an 800 number or a land line. When are they going to wake up and realize almost nobody benefits from toll free numbers anymore. A smart company, if there are any, would have you call a commercial number, and if you are the couple left with a land line only they could call you back.

  • Why can't ny subway at least run trains on elevated sections?

Is this thing like a big train set that can't run if part is disabled? There is only a sma

L percent under water. They could run a lot of small sections, for example all of Brooklyn and queens, and manhattan north of 40 th street. A long walk is better than not getting to work.

  • Back fusion, is this a good idea at 62?

So they tell me I have a spondlolestis at L5. Want to fillet me like a fish, chop off bone from my pelvis and pack it and a few rods and screws into my back. And in 6 to 12 months I will be as good as new. Maybe. I am undecided. They have painkillers but seem not to want to give them. I am not I enough pain, I guess. Do it or not?

  • Uncle died, he got 100% disability for asbesdosis, he has died, will wife continue to collect?

He was getting 2400 a month to himself, and about 1400 regular social security. She draws about 1200 on her own. Anyone familiar with what happens when the disabled spouse dies. Will she lose all the disability and revert to the survivor share of social security, or since the disease shortened his life, would she be entitled to a part of his disability pension?

  • California title question?

Son came home to NJ with CA plates on car. We want to sell the car, so I asked to see the title. He presents me with the NJ title issued when we bought the car. He says in CA you dont need a new title to get plates. I have never heard such a thing. But if he switched titles from NJ to CA they would have taken his old one and cancelled it, unless they are incompetent.

If I sell the car, who thinks the buyer will come back in 30 days saying they did not get a good title?

Is it possible that he has a NJ title on a CA car?

  • problem with 96 camry cooling fans?

I know this is a pandora's box. I have a 96 Camry 4 cyl. My son drove it from San Francisco to Sarasota this week. When he arrived he mentioned that the car used a lot of coolant, and he heard boiling at one point when stopped in a traffic jam. I am now sure that the cooling fans never come on. Niether does the one connected to the ac. I jumped a wire to the battery, and the fans themselves do run. I dont see anything wrong with the fuses, but am no expert using a multimeter. Some say yank off the sensor to the bottom of the radiator. I tried, this thing has to be up on a lift to get a grip on that, but if the electrics are not functioning would taking this off do anything? Anything I have missed, or something else to try? THANKS

  • cellulose insulation in basement?

Contractor wants to blow in cellulose into basement walls. It is below grade about 70%. Says it can be used in exterior walls to retrofit old homes without a vapor barrier, so why not in the basement. I fear condensation. I have no vapor barrier.

  • Basement insulation below grade.?

I have one wall in the basement which was finished without any insulation. The room is unheated but I am worried about the lack of a vapor barrier. Is there a way to insulate and install a vapor barrier without removing the wallboard. It is open at the top because we have a drop ceiling, so I could get to the back of the wall easily.

  • Is a Masters in IT Management from a good school worth 40K?

I want to help my son who is thinking about taking this degree from a highly rated school in southern Virginia. This is a masters in IT Management, which is not the same as a Masters in IT. Don't ask me what the exact difference is other than his original degree is not IT so he is not a code writer. It surprises me that they offer a degree to "Manage" a specific type of employee. Are IT types hard to manage? Anyone know what this is and how marketable it is? I would prefer he take a regular Masters in Business Management. It seems more useful to me for the same money.
