Do you think Cupid could be a girl?

I'm in the process of writing a novel, and one of the characters is going to be a Cupid, but I've been wondering If Cupid could be female? I know that originally Cupid was a male, (Eros) the son of Aphrodite.

And if it would make sence to have a female Cupid, what would their powers be?

Personally, I think a female cupid makes much more sense. The idea of some little bastrd flapping around in a diaper firing arrows at me is just creepy. I never liked that guy!
Re-write Cupid as a girl, and I'll be the first one to buy a copy of your book.
