Did the Philippine Media spoil Manny too much?

Ok I am filipino, so obviously this question is for Filipinos

Manny Pacquiao is the greatest sports hero the Philippines had. I find nothing wrong of a country hailing its prized champion. Roberto Duran at a time was Panamas greatest hero.

But in my opinion the media as well as some Filipinos bloated his accomplishment way out of proportion. At the time, the universe of the entire Philippines revolved around manny Pacquiao. Everything in the philippines that was worth showing for had to do with Manny Pacquiao. Then the media kept promoting Filipino-Pride out of his name, and thats when Manny and the entire country behind him started getting cocky. It was as if Filipinos believe that they are the greatest race in the world and they are invincible because of him.

Because Pacquiao was such a darling of the Philippine media, he started engaging on a lot of other BS he wasnt even supposed to. I cant even understand why people would applaud his singing when it is just painful to the ears. I know Dela Hoya did this during his prime, but at least he had the looks of a popstar and he could sing decently. The media would not even leave manny alone when in training. I dont just mean them covering his training diary, he also had to do TV guestings and host a game show in between the punching mitts. WTF?

I really thought that the media should have been more critical with him. I believe that the media contributed hugely to Mannys hubris. Had people been more critical of his god-awful singing voice, had someon called him ugly, maybe he would have focused more on what he does best

not only the media...the entire country, by making him a politician and a tv shows personality, it divided his heart from boxing...he's to deep into it he wont be able to bring back the real pacman mexicutioner pacquiao anymore, that version of him werent yet a politician and a showbiz personality during that time and he was able to clean up an entire division from the elites...and now the media and the politicians, they are trying to cover themselves from that embarrassing lost last week so they wont take the blame from a very displeased public.

the philippines should push her one and only boxing hero to improve his skills, learn more about safe boxing, the sweet science....he almost died in the ring, only proves boxing is a very dangerous sport, never take boxing lightly, nor a 39 year old battle worn opponent, 1 punch can make you follow z-gorrez to the wheel chair
