What is the point of a prisoner getting an education when he has a life sentence?

What is the point if they are never leaving prison?

    Partly it is to give them something to do. Also, many of the things they learn in prison are subjects that they can pass onto other inmates who do have a chance of getting out. For example, Leslie Van Houten, convicted in the manson family murders, has been a teacher in prison for years. She doesn't deserve to be let out, but she can still help other female prisoners.

    The point of it is for that person to get their mind of of what they are there for and also because they feel guilty and want to feel like they are accomplishing something
