How come my screen doesn't light up when I get a text message on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich)?

I recently got my first Android based phone and I love it except for the fact that when I get a text message and the screen is sleeping, the screen will not light up to show me who the text is from. So I end up having to wake up the phone, unlock it and then open up the notifications list.

Please let me know if this is a basic setting I can change or if I need an app to make the screen light up when I get a text.

That's a function of the app. This may not be available in the stock messaging app, so download Handcent from the Play Store. That app has a screen wakeup feature and will also place a quick reply popup on the screen. Great app, I use it all the time.

After you install it, turn off notifications in the default app (in the app settings) and set Handcent to be the default text app (also in the settings). This way, you won't get double notifications.

I destroy in in 0.5 and devour one 0.5 in basic terms like a sandwich. the different 0.5 I lick the sides until lots of the ice cream is long gone, then I devour the cookie area until it incredibly is regardless of the ice cream. After doing all that I pop something of it in my mouth, then lick the cookie off my hands.
