Sentencing someone to the punishment of infinite torture for the finite crime of not believing a in god that refuses to provide empirical evidence of its existence would make such a god an infinitely sadistic bastard.

To answer this question, we must step back for a minute. When the fall of man occurred in the Garden of Eden, man was cursed to eternal life in hell. We deserved it, because God clearly stated that if you sin, surely this will happen. But, God is very gracious, and send his son to take on ALL the sins of those who are willing to accept His gift that He has given to us. Those who refuse the gift of salvation will recieve the original punishment of death. Think of it as a one way road to hell, and salvation is a small branch off of that road, that some choose to take. Those who take that road will be saved, but those who continue down that same road will still go to hell.

If hell is infinite punishment for finite sins, then hell is unjust.

However, if the sin of spitting in the face of one's creator is of infinite gravity, then infinite punishment is indeed deserved for an infinite sin.

More likely -- in my opinion, at least -- is that hell is serf-perpetuating when a person in hell continues to hate God and to rebel against him for putting him in hell. It becomes circular and ongoing.

Either way, there are rational reasons for hell to be eternal.

the bible says there are many "degrees" of hell, depending on you sins; if God allowed sinners into heaven, what would be the purpose of that? sort of like what we have now. No paradise. Its not so much that God sends you to hell, its a choice: you make that decision yourself.

"If GOD is a God of Love, then how could he have created a HELL? God did not create hell for man but for Satan and all his followers. God is also God of Divine Judgement. He has passed judgement on Satan, the great destroyer. Hell and the lake of fire are that judgement. Both are real. Hell may be controversial, & extremely unpopular, but it is also REAL. Anyone who does not believe in a literal Hell is listening more to Satan than to Jesus. They are in effect "paying attention to the doctrines of demons." The truth of Hell is a vital Christian doctrine, that many cults try to do away with; by saying doctrine is not important. Yet it is impossible to exaggerate the seriousness and urgency tha the doctrine of hell imparts to life here and now.

If there is no Hell then God is not just. If there is no punishment of sin, heaven is apathetic towards the rapist and pillagers and mass murderers and destroyers of society, who never repent.

sounds more that a state of mind. IF EACH OF US WILL ONE DAY DIE, THEN THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN LIFE IS TO HAVE ASSURANCE THAT DEATH CAN BE ENTERED SAFELY.

IN ALL ETERNITY NO SINGLE DECISION WILL BE MORE CONSEQUENTIAL

Maybe those who never learn or remember repeat over and over forever sin. They live in a reality all their own. Have you ever seen

how some people never learn what is good for one is good for all ,or what is bad for one is bad

for all. Those who live unconscious when awake never waken. For me Being is God and God is Now

    and if not Now ,when?

Salvation is not a reward for good behavior. It is the free gift of God to undeserving sinners, and has nothing to do with the extent of a person's sin.

ok, let me tell you then.

you suffer, if you ever caused suffering for others. you'll receive what you've given others. nothing more or less.

if you don't believe in god, then you will suffer differently. you won't get to reach what you've always wanted. god will say to you -> i don't exist, remember?

so you'll be left alone with your desires, which you'll never get to fullfill, but still exist forever.

hope you understand what i'm saying.

You are dazzling yourself with words to justify that false doctrine.

    Naughty, naughty!

Or you could just be a Buddhist... universal enlightenment for all people, and hell is just in your mind. :)

    peace.
