We got a new dog and the old dog has started crapping in the house - how can we stop this?
My parents have 2 border collies. Holly the female is the first one they have, and they have had her for over a year. They got her when she was a puppy. She was perfect but they wanted another collie, so they got Colin, who is a 4 year old rescue dog. He is lovely. Holly is dominant, and they play together and seem to get on fine except occasionally she will push him around and sometimes he appears a bit frightened of her.
When Colin first came, my mam fell and broke her right limbs and this has really upset Holly, who is a sensitive dog. Mam was always the boss, so her world has turned upside down. Holly has started peeing and pooing in the house. She's a smart, complex dog so whether this is because of Colin (she was a bit spoilt before and now she has to share my mam and dad), because of mam, because she thinks mam's injuries are Colin's fault or a combination I don't know. But it really stresses dad out that Holly is making a habit out of relieving herself on the floor, and it's not too good for her because he freaks out and overreacts and yells at her when she does it. So, we need a plan to stop her from doing it, for her sake as well as theirs! (I don't live here all the time, just here for a short time)

The first thing you have to do is get rid of the smell of the dog waste by steam cleaning or shampooing or get rid of the carpet because if you don't the smell will keep drawing the dogs to the same spots as dogs are attracted to that kind of smell. Then you will have to go back to house training them , feed them once a day I feed at 5PM then wait 20 min. and let them out, after they go don't feed them again until the next day.In a few days they should catch on.GOOD LUCK!

Hello,I am a dog lover and have had 3 border collies,it has been my pleasure to have them in my life. Two have now passed on due to old age and currently I have a 4 year old dog.Border collies are well known to be an intelligent.
I had my first dog for 7 years, then I bought my second who was a ***** dog.The 7 year old became completely withdrawn,so much so that he stopped eating and only drank a little water.I took him to the Vet and was advised he was jealous of the new dog and maybe I might have to seperate them for a while whilst the older dog recovered.I had someone look after the puppy for two weeks, immediately when she was gone he started eating and drinking. When the puppy came home again he finally accepted her but made sure he was top dog.
Sorry if this is a long reply,I wanted to let you know my experience as yours is similar in many ways.Your first dog appears to be reacting like this for the very same reasons mine got sick, she is jealous of not being the sole centre of attention any more. You will need to separate them for a while, take the older dog away for a few days, then it is a matter of cleaning the areas where the dog has messed,a deep clean is needed in order that your dog can no longer get the scent of her fowling the area.
When you re introduce your other dog you will have to pay special attention to the other.Plenty of petting and reassurance is what she needs. Also make sure she has plenty of opportunities to do her mess outside.I feel confident that all will be well if you do this.I do not think the issue with your mam has anything to do with this messing.Dogs are loyal,Collies are extra clever however they are not that advanced that they can hold a grudge against another dog because your mam injured herself.
Good luck with your pets,
Merry Christmas.

First use a pet deodorizer to get the smell out don't use ammonia based cleaners as she may get confused and think the house is her bathroom. Take her to a vet as soon as you can since this could be a sign that something is physically wrong with her. It's not uncommon for young dogs to start regressing and make "accidents". Try to re-house train her. Put her on a strict feeding schedual and crate het when no one is around to watch her until she can be trusted again to not go in the house. When you see her mess dnot scold her or rub her nose in it because it can cause her to fear you and potty in a different part of the house where you can't find it. When you see her in the act of going to the bathroom grab her by the collar or put her leash on her and take her out. Praise her when she goes and give her a good play session. When you find her poops in your house pick them up and place them outside to remind her of where her toilet is. You could also try putting a pee post in the yard. The smell encourages dogs to pee on it and is good for house training and teaching her to go in only certain areas of the yard. They can be found either online or at petstores.
