A better egg nog recipe?
I've been making Christmas egg nog for years from a 4-5 generation old recipe. I give quarts to my friends and neighbors who rave about it. The liquors are bourbon and either rum or brandy. I use white rum as the brandy seems a little harsh. I'd like to tweak it next year for one of the batches, but don't want to screw it up. Has anyone used spiced rum or dark rum in egg nog? Or should I not mess with a winner.

I would never recommend that any one make their own eggnog because it calls for raw eggs...never a good idea. However I have heard that spiced rum is especially good if mixed with store bought eggnog.

@Jon using raw eggs is perfectly fine the chance to get salmonella in general is minute these days and the amount of alcohol kills the bacteria either way.
And to answer your question I've found that a good spiced rum like Kracken works very well.
