How do you let girls down easy in bars?

I recently turned 21 and have been going to bars and clubs with my friends. I don't want to sound like a complete ********, but here is the situation: Some nights I have a lot of luck and girls I think are pretty will talk to me and come home; other nights girls that I find less attractive find me and won't take any hints that I'm not interested. The pretty girls don't want to come talk to me while the other girls are still there. My buddies tell me to just be mean until they go away, but I don't want to do that because I'd feel awful about it for the rest of the night. How do I tactfully let them down if they can't  read signals well? 

PS-Don't tell me to say that I'm gay, I tried that... then this one girl thought we were automatically best friends or something.

so you're too good to TALK to these girls? being polite to people you meet won't harm you. The classiest of guys are respectful of everyone. As long as you don't give them the wrong impression you have nothing to worry about it, and you'll make these girls feel good about talking to such a nice guy. Just don't askf or their number, don't buy them a drink, and don't invite them to go home. just keep it impersonal. if they cross the line then ignore.

Wow.  You must be hot stuff.  Girls come up to you out of nowhere and demand to go home with you and won't take no for an answer?  Poor you.  I've never heard of such a thing.

I wish I could help you, but I have never had that problem. I usually feel good if they don't point and laugh.
