Is an Ampeg 810 usually this much?
I thought I've seen these things at guitar center for 800, are they increasing the price because of the holidays?

I haven't seen new SVT810s for that in over 10 years. Maybe you saw a B-stock or return.
Have you ever actually gigged with one of those things? Better question...have you loaded one up and moved it around? I used to use 3 of 'em, but that's back when I had a crew to move 'em. At 170 pounds, they're not insignificant.
I made the move to 4x10's several years ago. Stack 2 of 'em, and you've got almost the same thing (an SVT is actually divided into 4 compartments with a pair of speakers each).
