Isn't this a clear sign we need both Health Reform AND stricter gun control?

In just the last year the U.S. has a death toll of 88 from mass shootings by mentally ill people who had access to legally obtained semi automatic guns..that's not even counting other deaths by gun..just the random acts of mass shootings. Most these shooters were diagnosed and untreated..you can't force medicate anyone and Physc holds are only 72hrs..to me we should consider reforming both health care laws and gun control laws.

Update:

@Libatarian..I say that if someone came into my house and stole my husbands gun cabinet which is locked and secure there would be three legally obtained guns in the hands of an obvious criminal and I would gladly give up the right to own them to have the piece of mind that they don't end up being the weapons used to commit an act like this..My husband is planning on getting rid of all his semi auto and get a revolver..don't need more than that.

Yes, its a bizarre country that perceives having a GUN a HUMAN RIGHT

and that Health care is a privilege !?

When this shooting happened there were very strict gun laws but this person stole his mothers and killed her first. The went on the killing spree.

The gun laws are very strict in all the states but the problem is that most do not see this nor know facts from fiction about them. The laws make it against the law for Felons, mentally ill and many others to own or have guns as it is now.

Health care issues should be addressed so that people like this young man gets the help that they need.

Gun control is a nice idea, but doesn't solve the problem. Criminals and those driven to commit violence will find their outlet regardless of the law. Education and prevention is the key. Much the same can be said of health care. We place so much emphasis on treatment of diseases and conditions but very little on education and prevention. Once those scales are reversed, a much more streamlined, economical health care industry will be available. So, I guess I'm agreeing with you, in a sense. That said, the healthcare reforms proposed by Obama are not the solution and will probably end up making things worse rather than better. But perhaps that will get the ball rolling on this issue.

NO one can control the irrational behavior of the mentally ill. They always find the means of destruction.

The push people into oncoming traffic, trains, throw acid in their faces, use poisons and home made bombs. Health Reform should do away with the Mentally Ill's Patient Rights. No matter how hard the family's attempt to get help they are restricted by Patient's Rights. You can't force the taking of medication, seeing a therapist or confinement

Affordable Health Care for everyone is so much needed. We have been failing miserably.

The NRA quotes the constitution when it comes to bearing arms but not when it comes to

every Citizen being entitled to Life. Guns take Lives.

Health Care saves lives on a grand scale.

It does appear tobe so. However I think it is a more complicated issue.

So you are suggesting that if I give up my guns that are safely stored in a safe there will be no illegal guns for criminals or crazies? Great liberal logic!
