How does the Teen Titans TV series relate to the comic books?

How does it relate to Young Justice, the New Teen Titans, Team Titans, etc?

I never knew the cartoon characters were based off of actual DC characters and basically I'm just so confused, are the cartoon network characters like Starfire the same ones from . . . the other stories (not even sure about those)?

The series draws its influence from the 1980s New Teen Titans, comprising of founding members the first Robin Dick Grayson, the first Wonder Girl Donna Troy, and the first Kid Flash Wally West, and new members Beast Boy, Cyborg, Starfire, and Raven.

Raven formed the new team to fight her father Trigon; this story was somewhat adapted in the animated series. The Terra storyline in the animated series was also adapted from the comic storyline The Judas Contract.

Young Justice was a team formed by the new Robin Tim Drake, and the new heroes Superboy Conner Kent and Impulse Bart Allen. Other teen heroes such as the new Wonder Girl also joined.

The older Teen Titans simply became the Titans around the same time Young Justice formed.

The crossover Titans/Young Justice: Graduation Day led to the disbanding of both teams after a battle killed several heroes, including Donna Troy

The 2003 Teen Titans relaunched the team with former members Beast Boy, Cyborg, Starfire, and later Raven; new members included the new Kid Flash, Robin, Superboy, and Wonder Girl.

Dick Grayson/Nightwing joined the Outsiders, and Wally West/Flash remained with the Justice League.
