Pain in sternum when I run?

I run about 7.5 miles per hour (treadmill) and when I run, i get awful pain in my sternum or "bread basket" area. I'm not out of shape so what does/ could this pain mean?

You could have a pulled diaphragm, or intercostal muscle. Do you get muscle cramps at all? I would suggest you give running a rest for awhile, if it still persists, see your doctor.
