What is the best approach to have my dog "meet" my friends' dog?

I recently adopted a very friendly brittany hound mix named Hopps. He is pretty friendly around other dogs, so I thought it would be a good idea for him to meet my friend's dog, Nelly. Well Nelly is a very friendly dog, but apparently isn't as friendly with unfamiliar dogs that are her size or larger, and Hopps is definitely her size. The first time they met, Hopps happily approached Nelly, but instead of returning the same greating, Nelly barked and snapped at him aggressively. Now my friend has two other small dogs who behaved rather well towards Hopps, but Nelly continued to snap at him.

I truly think Nelly just didn't get the chance to meet Hopps, and once they get to know each other they will be good friends. However, how should we approach the situation again, to make it the safest and best possible chance for the two dogs to be friends?

Update:

The walk is a great idea! Yeah, I totally just took him to my friend's house, I guess i just wasn't thinking anything was going to go wrong (duh). Hopps is still learning how to properly walk on his leash, but i got him a no pull harness which helps a lot. I am worried that he may get very distracted though, since he will be walking with another dog (Nelly). Should I wait until he has learned more leash training, or would it be okay to use this as part of his leash training?

You didn't mention how Hopps approached her. She might have felt threatened if he came at her too fast. Take it slow. They had a poor first meeting and it might take her a while to come around...or maybe she just took a dislike to him. Time will tell.

Easiest thing to try is to take the 2 dogs for a long walk in territory that is unfamiliar to Nelly. Don't let Hopps interfere with Nelly, just keep them walking along and let her get used to having him nearby in a non-threatening manner. You might take some treats along to feed both dogs if they behave well.

Take them both to neutral territory. Like out on a walk together. Or even a dog park. Not to one of your houses.
