NO. That just sounds completely insane and stupid. Why would that ever be a good thing?

Yes, its a good thing, If someone on the school staff at Sandy Hook Elementary had been armed, there would have been a very good chance that this mass murdering of children would have been prevented. If everyone would stop and think for just one minute, all of the places where these mass shootings has occurred are places where citizens are prohibited by law to be armed, even if they hold a permit.

As someone who's Center-Left and supports legal and regulated gun ownership, I guess you can see it as a "good thing," but with HUGE cautionary footnotes:

*Many gun accidents arise from children getting access to unsecured weapons. Where are these guns concealed--a purse, a briefcase? Left unattended at ANY time, these guns can quickly fall into the wrong hands. And, of course, that's not just children . . .

*As has been proven time and time again, including with the Giffords-event shooting, even having legal gun-carriers on the scene doesn't necessarily mean that NOBODY will be shot--things aren't NEARLY as neat-and-composed as TV and movies (and theater) would have us like to believe and there is often a great deal of up-front confusion if more than one gun is drawn as far A) which person is the bad person B) if there's more than one bad person. You could, of course, still look at this as progress over having no one armed for protection, but therein lies the great gun debate in this country: do we, in REACTION, arm ourselves as much as possible or PROACTIVELY try to do much more to get guns out of the hands of evil-doers to begin with.

*The first time a teacher snaps and even WAVES a gun at someone--another teacher, a child, principal/headmaster, etc.--the whole intended purpose is right out the window. We always talk about students going berserk, but look at these teachers doing STUPID stuff like duct taping students' mouths and roughhousing with students.

The only difference is now honest people will have them too. At what point will people wake and realize that a gun free zone sign is akin to a lock, it only keeps honest people out. As we have seen many times insane people don't bother to abode by the rules. The ct school was a gun free zone. And my neighbors car was locked but those kids where still killed and his car window was snatched and the stereo stolen. Regardless of the "rules"

If it will help prevent another Va. Tech or Sandy Hook, then yes - depending on who is going to be allowed to carry.

Was it the Republican pary or the Legislature that legalized it?
