Knew job but no ss card?

I was wondering if I could bring my birth certificate and have my parents show their social security

card? The birth certificate show my mom and dads social number and they could match it up and prove I am me.

Update:

I am waiting on my ss card to be ordered and come in the mail.

Update 2:

So does that mean it wont work? I already went to ss office but I don't have that paper.

Your concern deals with Form I-9. Take your birth certificate and your drivers license, and you should be fine.

Link below is to a government website that shows the forms they accept. You will need 1 from List B and 1 from List C.

EDIT: Judy is right as far as it goes. Just to clarify: You need a social security NUMBER, but you do not need a social security CARD.

Go with your parents to your local Social Security office & apply for yours. The office will give you a letter stating that you did apply for it.

Be sure to call Social Security 1st to confirm their hours.

To allow you to start work, the employer needs verification of your ss#. They can't legally let you work until you have it.
