There are multiple genetic anomalies associated with congenital heart disease including deletions, duplications, and translocations. A small amount of congenital heart defects have been found to have classic Mendelian inheritance patterns and have polygenic effects mixed with some environmental causes. However, the large majority of cases do not have a genetic cause known.
