Tattoo healing process?

A good friend of mine applies a little ointment for 2 days after he gets his tattoo, then he just cleans it and let's it scab he doesn't scratch them or anything and his tattoos heal fine no ink loss or anything. My question is, is this healthy to do all the time?

your body does the healing by replacing the skin cells that were damaged by the tattooing process. if you want it to heal fast and properly get plenty of rest (you only heal while you are sleeping), eat good foods, keep it clean and don't scratch or pick at it. If it were to get infected you will have to see a doctor for antibiotics since real drugs are NOT over the counter. Tattoo care products only help the sellers. Ointments are a waste of time they will not enhance or speed skin cell regeneration. Leave it alone!

  • Every time I've gotten a tattoo, they tell me to put some ointment on it for the first few days to keep it moist and not to let it dry out. After that, keep putting lotion on it. I'm not sure if it's healthy to let it scab but it probably will itch a lot more if you don't keep it moist..
