Why doesn't Amazon allow MP3 downloads in other countries?
I just wanted to download and pay for an MP3 album from Amazon, only to be denied because I'm not in the USA. What's that about? I can easily go onto any torrent site and download things for free, but when I go to pay for an album that I really want on Amazon (and can't find on any torrent website) I get denied?!?!?! I just cancelled my subscription with Amazon because of that. What's the point of being with them if I can't get a simple MP3 download?!?!?!?!
Lyndis, what do you mean by "Keeping in mind that some companies want people to pirate so that they can sue them for much more money later on."? Do you mean that Amazon hopes we will download from torrent sites so that they can sue them in the future? I'm not sure I understand....

Yes, it's very stupid.

Amazon's deals with many record companies specify US distribution only. And they're quite serious; they grumbled about my American Express card because the number is in a range they didn't recognize as issued in the States. (The iTunes Store's offerings change based on your location.)
Amazon doesn't, as a rule, sue people over piracy. The record industry, however, loves to.
