What caused this strange insect phenomenon?
Here's a weird one... Yesterday my father had a guy come around to inject a chemical into a huge Elm tree in our backyard to eradicate all the little beetles that are eating the leaves and killing the trees (it's happening all around my home town of Bathurst in New South Wales, Australia). Anyway, this morning I went into his workshop, which is nearby, and the floor was literally covered with thousands of dead beetles! The weird thing is they were nowhere else... The garage and other two sheds which are just next to it were spotless, and even outside there were none on the ground! What would have led them to ALL go in to that particular shed? To add to this, the only real way for them to get in would have been through a small wooden window with angled slats (and maybe a small gap at the top of the door), but the other two sheds have pretty much the same set-up.... Just quite bizarre!

3 AnswersOther - Home & Garden4 years agoMicrosoft Edge favorites not syncing properly between PC and phone...?
My Microsoft Edge favorites rarely sync between my Windows 10 PC and Windows 10 Phone. When they actually DO decide to work it's perhaps three items at the most. I am yet to have my full favorites list from my PC sync properly with my phone. I have had both 'machines' for 2 months now and I have all the relevant sync settings activated and I am signed in to the one account on both, yet I am still waiting for everything to migrate. I have resorted to manually entering all my PC favorites into my phone as I seem to be better and faster at it than Microsoft. If anyone has found a cure for this problem, please let me know. Thanks!
2 AnswersOther - Computers5 years agoDownshifting Eaton Road Ranger® gears for a relatively quick stop...?
I am going to learn to drive a 'heavy rigid' truck using a road ranger ('crash') box. I know that in a car I can obviously go down through the gears pretty quickly when coming to a stop, or even just use the brake and hold the clutch in for a bit then just shift straight into second or first when slow enough. What's the procedure when using a heap of gears though, like 18(!) if you've got to slow down pretty quickly to stop rather than just casually doing it when you know you've got plenty of time. Basically, I'm talking about if traffic lights change and you haven't got enough distance to slow down gradually, for example. Thanks a lot for your help...

1 AnswerGambling8 years agoWhy doesn't Amazon allow MP3 downloads in other countries?
I just wanted to download and pay for an MP3 album from Amazon, only to be denied because I'm not in the USA. What's that about? I can easily go onto any torrent site and download things for free, but when I go to pay for an album that I really want on Amazon (and can't find on any torrent website) I get denied?!?!?! I just cancelled my subscription with Amazon because of that. What's the point of being with them if I can't get a simple MP3 download?!?!?!?!
3 AnswersOther - Internet8 years agoWhat is the word for customer satisfaction/appraisal/positive opinion?
You know when you read a website and they put up the positive opinions by customers? What's that word? I have it on the tip of my tongue, but for the life of me, I can't spit it out!!!!! "Customer ...."
2 AnswersWords & Wordplay8 years agoWhy is my torrent upload speed WAY faster than my download speed?
For my last few torrent downloads (either individually or combined), my upload speed has been a ridiculous 900kB/s or more while my download speed only stays around 60kB/s. What's that about? I'm using the latest Bittorrent program and I've done all the right speed tests and configured everything the right way. My normal port is open and fine, etc, etc, etc. Usually I can get over 1Mb/s download with a 'normal' uprate of around 70-80kB/s, which I was happy with. I seed when downloads are finished and all that stuff, so I'm doing everything right. Why, then, are my most recent downloads so excruciatingly slow, yet they upload like a "mofo"?!
The only thing I can put it down to is that I've noticed there are more peers/leechers than seeders with these particular downloads (although they're not exactly the most popular torrents around - obscure movies, etc), so maybe everyone's leeching off ME and I'm hardly getting a thing in return! Could that be it?
Whatever.... it's really frustrating, and I'm just hoping one of you knows of a little trick around this or something. BTW, before you mention it, I've tried adjusting the upload speed for each torrent, but that doesn't seem to help either.... WTF?!?!?!
7 AnswersSoftware8 years agoCigarettes - Some die, some don't...?
Why is it that I knew a person who died of lung cancer at only 30 years old (apparently from smoking), yet I just met an 80 year old man who said he has smoked at least 40 a day continuously for 60 years and doesn't feel any adverse effects at all? Is it in our genes, or just the luck of the draw... so to speak?
2 AnswersCancer9 years agoDifferent Alphabets, Same Numbers...?
Why do all languages use the same numerical figures? I mean, even in Chinese and Arabic they use 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc as the symbols for those numbers. Is it something that has just happened in modern times or what? Also, how has it come to be that such diverse languages as Polish, French, German, etc use the same letters as English, yet they sound different - eg the Spanish 'J' as in John is pronounced like a 'Y' as in Yak....? Please help....

3 AnswersZoology9 years agoUpper back pain, shoulder pain, numb index fingertip?
For over a month now I have had bad pain in my left shoulder blade (Scapula?), plus pain in my left shoulder with 'pins and needles' down my left arm and a numb left index fingertip. At first I had severe neck pain, but that's gone and I just have all this other pain. Initially a doctor diagnosed Cervical Spondylosis, but after a remedial massage the masseuse said it wasn't a neck problem. I have also had two acupuncture treatments, but to no avail. I am a professional drummer, and it is really killing to use my left hand, to the point I'm now playing "Def Leppard" style to get by. I am taking Diazepam 5mg, Diclofenac Sodium 50mg, Dihydrocodeine-Tartrate 30mg and Paracetamol 500mg. I also rub Deep Heat into the painful areas. It is not a pinched nerve, by the way. Any other clues?

view trading as easy money; however, it may be the 'hardest' easy
money there is! " Quoted by Stuart McPhee - http://www.trading-plan.com/index.html - I'm sure Warren Buffett must have said some great things in his time. Just wondering.....

2 AnswersInvesting10 years agoWhat's your favorite drum solo on video?
Mine has to be the Ol' Man River solo by Sonny Payne, with the 1962 Count Basie Orchestra. No..... I'm not 100 years old, but I really appreciate what he does on this, with all the stick-twirling, snare-drum technique, and the speed of BOTH his hands when he's playing along with the melody of Ol' Man River. Initially, it's just his right hand that blows me away, but at the end, BOTH hands are flying!!!! Check out this link...

5 AnswersJazz10 years agoOne repetitive word in a sentence...?
Do you know a word that can be used 9 times consecutively (with no other words in between) in one sentence? There is only one word in the English language that can actually do this. It takes a bit of brain-power to analyze it and to realise that it can actually work, but there REALLY is a word that can be used 9 times in a row (with punctuation, etc) to make a legitimate English sentence. (BTW, don't ever try to explain it to someone who thinks they're fluent in English although they're from another country..... I tried it out on my "fluent English-speaking" Polish girlfriend, but she's never been able to comprehend it!!!!!) It seems to only work with true English-speaking people (and smart ones too).... I'll provide the answer in a separate post....
4 AnswersWords & Wordplay10 years agoPet Rat - Strange Sound?
We've had our pet rat for 18 months and in the last 2 months she's started making this strange, 'pulsing' gutteral sound, like a chimpanzee going "ooh, ooh, ooh", but obviously not as loud, and from within her chest, if you know what I mean.... It goes on constantly, but sometimes eases off if we take her out of the cage and rest her on our shoulder. When she's eating it's just as bad - if not worse - and she sort of shudders as she's making the sound. I think she has lost weight too, which is a bit of worry. Do you think this is just a sign of old age (she's about 2 years old now), or is it a disease? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.... :)
6 AnswersRodents10 years agoIs religion the root of all evil?
Why are the majority of wars in the world based on religion? If there really is a God, wouldn't we all believe in the same one? Why is it that just because one culture believes in one God they think they have to try to make everyone believe in the same thing? I was under the impression that religion is meant to promote peace, but it seems to me that religion is the worst thing that ever happened to humanity. Don't you think that if religion and all talk of it was abolished from the world, we would all live in peace? That's the way to freedom, peace and harmony... Get rid of religion completely..... I'm an athiest, yet I live a very fulfilling life, with no worries, problems, or feelings of 'guilt'. I'm a law-abiding citizen and I know right from wrong. I just don't need people preaching to me about what THEY think is right or wrong. I get so upset when I watch the news and see that the world is falling apart because of one religious belief trying to fight over another. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF AND YOU WILL BE SAVED!!!! That's my opinion anyway, and I am a healthy, happy 44 year old. By the way, I've lived longer than Jesus ever did...
