Tips please: What's the best way to get into running while overweight?
I'm a five foot tall, 24 year old woman who is overweight. I realize that doesn't sound like the ideal candidate for a runner, but stay with me. I find that I don't enjoy most exercise, but I would like to get in shape. I know that many runners get a runner's high or feel very free while they run, so I'd like to get into running as my exercise of choice, in the hopes that I can come to enjoy it. I don't plan on ever being a competitive runner, but I want to learn how to run safely. I'm asking here rather than in diet/exercise because I think you will have more expertise in this category.
So I'd like to ask you to contribute any tips you have for a new runner, particularly one who is overweight (I have large breasts as well; if you've got tips for a busty runner, they're appreciated too!) What's the best way to ease into it and do it right so that I come to enjoy it? Please share any resources you know of that you think would help me out. Thanks a lot.

Start out walking. A lot.
Then move to a "couch to 5k" program. They are excellent!
And don't feel discouraged when you don't get that runners high right away. Don't give up!

The only way to do it is to go out and practice. It's not about the speed or distance covered over time that is important. As long as you are on your feet and moving, walking, jogging, whatever, for extended times (20 minutes straight or more) you'll be fine.
Just get out there. Start talking to people who run, find running clubs and groups, and make it social. RUnners are some of the nicest folks you'll ever meet. None of them judge and a lot of them were where you are now. They can help.

First, get a good-fitting, comfortable bra. As a fellow busty women I will also tell you to stretch. No, I don't mean your legs (though you obviously should stretch those too!) but your back. Breasts take a toll on your back as you are well aware. Second, get enthusiastic and work your way up. Walking to jogging to running with times getting progressively longer. When you start it should be 20-30 minutes otherwise it won't make a lot of impact. Third, make sure even while you set goals and make progress, have fun! Set backs will occur, but nothing worth doing is ever easy!

I started walking at 208 lbs. When I got to where I could run, I would run, until I needed to walk. That was last May.
Now I am 143 lbs and can run 7 miles.
Try the C25k program or get the book Run Your Butt Off and do what it says - or any similar program.
Good luck to you! Oh, and i know of busty women who wear 2 sports bras.
