Do cats get nightmares?
My cat was growling in her sleep.
Thanks for the answers, I'll keep the question open a little longer, so if anyone wants to add to it, feel free to do so.

Yes... Cats can have scary dreams.
I suspect mice may even have bad dreams about cats; but cats supposedly are a jump above mice on the developmental tree and have supposedly complex emotional forward thinking beyond lizards and rodents. Crocodiles are very territorial and can devise sneaky plans to eat you but cats supposedly have far more advanced emotional and intentional aspects.

Cats have good memories. (They never forget that their carrier often means a trip to the dreaded vet). Since dreams are based on things we've experienced or seen, then there's every reason to believe that cats dream too. If they've suffered a traumatic event in their life, this will sometimes manifest itself as nightmares.
Perhaps your cat is dreaming about a confrontation with another cat or is hunting prey. Their body language whilst sleeping can often give clues to what they might be dreaming about. This article about cat dreams has lots of information you might find interesting.

I'm sure your cat can have nightmares, as well as good dreams to. Just like humans they aren't immune to dreams. Sounds quite normal.
