How do you change your child's godparents?

My son's godfather is his uncle on his father's side. His uncle is always in trouble. He does pills, drugs, drinks, and does nothing when he takes my son to his dad's house. In all honesty they both ignore him and my daughter. How do I change his godfather? I don't need any snide remarks. If you knew this man you would do it too. All he does is yell at my son, hit my son, treat my son like ****. I'm sick of my son coming home from weekends with his dad and uncle and being in tears or hurting. How do I change his uncle from godfather?

Update:

My son is nondenominational. I am having him rebaptized as a Baptist, it's what he chose.

*Is Catholic* No you won't be able to change godparents. in accordance to Canon regulation, the workplace of the Godparent is everlasting. all of us else right that is inaccurate. What you may want to do nonetheless is basically have yet another buddy help in educating the youngster contained in the Catholic faith if the godparents at the prompt are too far-off. there isn't any project in that. If the godparents at the prompt are not good Catholics, you do not could enable them have some thing to do including your baby. The position of the Godparent is a duty of the Godparent to fulfill, it really is a non secular vow between them and God that won't be able to be transferred. besides, no this won't be able to get replaced, it really is on the parish registry. basically have somebody else take over the household projects of the Godparent (social non secular and in the different case). the in common words large difference is that the hot persons is basically not on the parish registry. i recognize countless those who've new "godparents" because the others have died or won't be able to fulfill their obligations. they're extra so an followed godparent or a non secular consultant.

A God Father is just someone who agrees to share the faith of God with the child. It is nothing legal binding. It is not done in court or on paper. It is done in a church at baptism. This is with the Catholic faith only.

Source(s): homeschooling mom of 3- I'm not catholic but a family friend I had me stand up to be God mother for her daughter. After I read about it I just felt since I wasn't catholic it wouldn't be right for me to agree to do that.
