Should I stay in college next semester?
All of my grades are final for the semester and while I only failed one class, my GPA is only 1.333 for the semester. I realize that's absolutely pitiful even for it being my first semester. Honestly it will take a ton of work to get that up past a 2.0 and I'm not 100% sure if I have it in me to try again right now, especially since there really isn't much I want to do right now anyway.
Of course my GPA means I'll be on academic probation next semester. I'll also be put on financial aid warning, and if I don't get a 2.0 next semester I'll be dismissed from school and I'll lose my financial aid. I'm majoring in Sociology right now, but I don't know if that's really what I want to study. I like some things about it, but not everything and there isn't much else I'm interested in.
The other big factor for my decision is housing. My family has been causing me a lot of issues lately which has stressed me out a lot to the point where I've had trouble concentrating on school, though that's not the only problem I've had with my grades. So I was planning on moving on campus next semester to help with my grades, so I can get away from the major stressors in my life and have more access to the support I need. But I can't do that if I'm not in classes, and I would also lose my job by taking a semester off because I work on campus.
I'm committed to getting my degree and want to do well. I would even like to go to graduate school in the future if I can. But right now I'm just not sure what the right path in life is for me. I would really appreciate an opinion on this from someone else's perspective, because I realize someone else might see this differently.

Stay in school. Find resources on campus - tutoring, study groups, your academic advisor. Whatever it takes. Living on campus will definitely make a difference - when I lived on campus my grades were much better compared to when I lived off campus. Your first semester is always hard, and it won't get any easier academically, but you will eventually get into the swing of college life. And trust me, it is much better to keep toughing it out, even if you're not sure about your major. It's a lot easier to change your major then to enroll again after taking time off. A high percentage of people who plan on only taking one or two semesters off end up never going back.
But seriously, the best thing you can do is use your resources - most colleges are full of them. Get help for your class work if you need to, you don't have to struggle through it alone. Even making informal study dates with your classmates will help motivate you and keep you on track. It'll be worth it when you eventually stumble across a major you're interested in and get your degree.

Should you stay in college? That's totally 100% up to you.
Would it be best if you stayed in college? yes probably
I can tell you from experience, your grades in college are almost totally related to the amount of effort you put into the work
I have taken some hard classes that I didn't understand, but I have never failed a course. If there is a course I don't do well with the exams in, I take extra time on the homeworks or other grades so I still do well enough
For classes that the only grads are the midterm exams, I would spend extra time doing practice problems and such, practicing with similar questions helps
Even writing classes with essays, if you seriously put time into the writing and do your best, you will end up doing okay even if the work isn't amazing, it is pretty much impossible to fail if you do all of the work
going to the classes makes a big difference too, even if you aren't paying attention when you're there, if you are being able to see what's going on and can listen a bit you will be better off
Even the stupidest person should be able to get at least a C in every class, maybe even a B honestly if they really try. As might not be so easy
And yes I know this, I knew a lot of people that really struggled in college, even some with learning disabilities, and because they worked so hard they ended up doing better than some other smarter people I knew
You need to try harder if you want to stay in school. Even with a 2.0 gpa you won't really get a job when you graduate, so going to school is going to be pointless if you aren't serious about it
but of course if you continue to do poorly you will be kicked out anyway
