Some miracle that allows identification of such mentally unstable people in the household. It's for damn sure the loons will never consider just getting rid of the GUNS, as sensible counties have..

Nothing will ever prevent it. For one thing, no matter how strict gun laws are, they will not stop criminals. Criminals don't care about laws. I highly doubt the shooter stopped to think that what he was doing was wrong. Secondly, it can often be very difficult to determine who is dangerous. Even being very mentally ill doesn't automatically mean you will go on a shooting rampage. And those that are dangerous, are often very good at hiding it. Lastly, even banning guns completely won't stop it. Drugs are illegal, but that doesn't stop people from getting them. Guns are illegal in Mexico, and you see how well that has been working for them

    Omniscience and omnipotence.

Btw, you do realize that the guns used in the shooting were his mother's guns, right? So how woud stricter laws about mentally unstable people getting guns have prevented this?

Honestly define mentally unstable, and if someone is a little messed up, how are gun distributers supposed to recognize this?

    So many questions

    Perfection.

All the laws we have ever written have not done so much as to prevent transgressions as much as they have served to punish transgressors.

It seems silly to me to punish someone for illegally acquiring a gun after they have killed someone.

Mainly the problem is that law enforcement can only do so much. When a people break laws in mass the laws are rendered ineffective, take for example, illegal immigration or illegal drugtrafficking.

These laws are so difficult to enforce because of the volume of transgressors, lawmakers are actively trying to make the illegal activities legal.

    Hope that helps.

Its been against the law to sell guns to a mentally ill person since 1967.

Do you guys even look these things up before you shoot your mouths off?

first , we would all have to agree on what is considered mentally unstable . would an IQ of 89 disqualify you ? yale records show that bush ( 43 ) has an 89 IQ , AND he shot a lawyer in the face .

already does, but Obama killed the bill that would have made gun checks harder, BTW a bill supported by the NRA.

The problem in CT was that the shooter was unable to buy his own gun, the current system worked.
