What's to blame in for the worst school massacre in US history?

May 18, 1927 : In the deadliest mass school murder in United States history, former school board member Andrew Kehoe set off three bombs in Bath Township, Michigan killing 45 people and wounding 58. Kehoe killed himself and the superintendent by blowing up his own vehicle.

Seems like according to today's mind set, we should be focusing on bombs (which are easily made, with pipes and fertilizer) instead of the person who committed the crime. Really?

Update:

Lightening. We could talk all day about responsible gun ownership. I own a gun and I had to take it to the police station, get fingerprinted, and have it registered. It is under lock and key. I've no problem with people being required to take gun safety classes before being able to own a gun. A deer hunter must take such a class before he can get a license to hunt. Stands to reason it should be the same across the board for anyone using or owning a gun. Same for the example of a car you gave. I'd go one step further and say anyone who wants to become a parent should be required to take classes and pass a test. (talk about the thousands of children abused or killed by someone who shouldn't even be a parent in the first place)

However, the point is ..for the story I posted, there are many more like this. Another one of the top 10 worse school massacres happened in Colgne with 11 killed and 22 injured by a man that converted insecticide spray into a flame thrower.

In t

Update 2:

In the end, we an look at these other examples and easily recognize who is responsible and ask ourselves what is wrong with society? The problem is much deeper than the choice of weapon. We do a disservice to the real problem when we focus on the superficial as the problem.

Update 3:

Lightening, I think we are saying similar things, just coming at it from different angles. :)

Update 4:

I lean more toward the social aspect. On many levels. But, my question is more simple than that. Regardless of the car that is driven drunk, or the bomb strapped around someone's waist, or the knife wielded in jealousy, or the bare hands tightening around someone's neck.... We can see that the person and their personal factors (society, bullying, mental illness, etc) is the one pulling the trigger, lighting the fuse, tightening their fingers.(most serial killers choose to strangle their numerous victims) ...but in none of these cases, does society point their finger at the weapon of choice...except when it is a gun. As a person who has had a loved one murdered by a robber using a gun years ago, I have to admit, for quite a while I had a dislike for them...but I never blamed it on the gun or the availability of them. The responsibility rested solely on the person who pulled the trigger (and he had the gun illegally -- That;s what criminals do. Regardless of the law.)

The Bathe Murders were pretty bad and you can only blame the person that committed the act.

The more that I find out about our most recent tragedy the more I see a lot of blame going to the the mother of Adam Lanza.

Adam's mother owned the weapons that he had used and in the months proceeding the attack had become increasingly concerned with his mental disposition. Despite these concerns she did not take any steps to either secure or get rig of her weapons. A simple biometric safe would have placed those weapons such that it would have taken her own finger print to open it. Even a key or combination locked safe could have been used as long as he did not have access to the method to open it.

If she could see the changes, why didn't she seek help for him? While I give her some of the responsibility the ultimate responsibility rests with the shooter, you can not fully blame one person but I do wonder if this would have happened if she had taken steps to secure her weapons.

    Bad people and the media.

The media hypes these losers up and each one wants to out do another! I say if a monster does this and they kill themselves, they should be eradicated from the face of the earth. Make it like they never existed, eliminate birth records, school records, anything that ties their existence should be vaporized. That will send a message to these people who try to out do each other.

And just my humble opinion...driving a car is a privilege, not a right. The right to bear arms was one of the founding principles of this nation. In fact it was number 2 on the bill of rights. There is a very big difference between privileges and rights.

In this case, Andrew Kehoe himself. In a broader sense, if someone is hell bent on killing a lot of innocent people, such a person will find ways to carry out their crime, unless

1.) we regular people care enough to spot the dangerous signs from these would-be criminals and report them to the proper authorities

    and

2.) unless same authorities (police) care enough to arrest the aforementioned would-be criminals when they're proven beyond reasonable doubt that they are a danger to themselves and innocent people.

Allowing people on our streets with Aspbergers syndrome and all the other mental conditions like Autism, mental retardation, etc caused this. We should keep all our freaks locked up in a sanitorium and other institutions like we used to and other countries still do.

    It's like handing a monkey a gun, you're gambling.
