How long will this take--braces?

I am 17 and have had braces for a year now.

My orthodontist did not want to pull teeth out on me to fix my overbite, so she tied my front four teeth together, and I am wearing elastics and springs to push my other top teeth back.

There is a gap forming on either side of my front 4 teeth, eventually I guess they will be pushed back to close the gap.

I think this is called a retraction?

Does anybody know how long that might take?

Call you dentist and ask him. He knows your situation and he knows when to remove those braces.

I'm not super experienced or anything, but I did have braces for almost 2 years... I would venture to guess about 4 to 5 months. I say this because my ortho told me a normal braces treatment patient will have theirs for about 2 years. With what you described, it seems like you still have a ways to go. Hang in there!! I never had to undergo any big things like springs, so maybe it will be longer than that. Again, I can't give you a for sure answer, but that might be close to correct...
