What makes you think a law prohibiting or limiting Americans from owning guns would curb gun violence?

It wouldn't.

There has NEVER been nor is there a single law that prevents a criminal act.

Rape is against the law.-- Yet, thousands of women are raped yearly. Would revoking the law making rape unlawful increase rapes?

No, of course not.

Murder is against the law.-- Yet, thousands are murdered each year.

Would revoking the law making murder unlawful increase murders?

Again, hardly..

Illegally entering the U.S. is against the law.-- Yet, millions have already done so.

Would revoking the law making it against the law to enter the U.S. a crime increase illegal immigrant entrances?

I doubt that.

Child abuse is against the law.-- Yet thousands of children are abused yearly. Would revoking the law making child abuse unlawful cause an increase in child abuse?

Don't be silly.

Domestic violence is against the law.-- Yet,thousands of cases of domestic violence occur in the U.S. yearly.

Would revoking the law making domestic violence unlawful cause an increase in domestic violence.

No, it would not

I could go on and on.

Normal law abiding people do NOT commit rapes, murders, child abuse acts, incidents of domestic violence, etc. because they are considered against the law. They don't commit these acts because they have respect for the law and have a "conscience". They don't need a LAW telling them these acts are wrong.

Abnormal people commit these acts because their minds are not normal and they have no respect for the law.. They commit these acts DESPITE them being against the law.

Again, no law has EVER prevented a crime.

Make gun ownership in any way against the law.-- Those who want guns of any sort will get them. As of right now, there are 300+ million guns in America. Would this LAW reduce gun crimes?

No, it would only make innocent law abiding Americans who have respect for law vulnerable to those who would obtain guns despite them being against the law.

Also..

In 1994 Bill Clinton made it against the law to have assault weapons.-- During its 10 year span it proved absolutely 100% useless.

Laws do NOT prevent crime. All laws do is provide punishment.

If punishment truly deterred criminal acts; there would be no crime.

But, it is quite clear that punishment is not very effective in stopping crime.

Criminals will not obey laws despite the possibility of being punished.

That's just how human nature is.

Laws...never prevented any crimes.

They never have; they never will.

Update:

orianna....Tell me ONE law that has PREVENTED a crime.

Just one!

Update 2:

Bootyking....Pay no taxes then expect NO services!!

You would be cutting off your nose to spite your face.

I agree, if someone can't buy a gun from a gun shop, or pawnshop then they will get one illegally. Gun laws don't work because the bottom line is criminals don't care about laws. There's millions of illegal firearms in circulation right now that can't even be tracked so how are they suppose to get those too? Four years after Clinton had the assault weapons ban a string of school shootings occurred, 4 of them in 1998, then in 1999 Columbine High School massacre happened. It did nothing.

Making something towards the regulation won't normally stop it.. If weapons were ever in opposition to the law than simplest the unhealthy guys would have them.. Having a gun won't support at all times however being defenseless will not ever help.. =============================== Calling 911 and asking the bad guy to attend is just not a achievable choice higher to have a gun and now not want it than to wish it and no longer have it!!!

If carrying a gun is a crime then the criminal can be arrested before he shoots someone. That us why stop and frisk laws lowers the murder rate in places where there are laws making in a crime to carry.

Because laws limiting gun ownership have curbed violence elsewhere.

Turns out when you outlaw guns, not even outlaws can get them.

Your logic is flawed. Ours is the worst violence in the industrialized nations group. By the way, please read up on the gun control lobby. It seeks to eliminate assault rifles.

If there was no law requiring me to pay taxes, I wouldn't pay any.

When guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns.
