Problem with digital audio fiber optic cable causing rapid popping sound the gets louder over time.?
My grandparents just got a new tv and blue ray/surround sound system. I set everything up and have a hdmi cable going from the blue ray to the tv for video and then a digital audio fiber optic cable to get the tv audio to go through the surround sound. The problem is that when you switch the tv's input from the cable box to the blue ray the speakers start making this rapid popping sound that gets louder and louder. I know it has something to do with the cable because when I unplug it the sound stops. Also I can stop it by switching the surround sound system from "optical" to anything else like "aux". I'm not sure what is wrong.
ok so after messing with it I found out that the hdmi and the optical audio cable are interfering with each other. the optical cable works find without the hdmi plugged in. Going to mess with the blue ray players settings.

Don't use fiber. Unless there is electrical interference use coax. There can be sync problems too.(with fiber)

You can try replacing the HDMI cable but sounds like an issue with the bluray player. Some blurays have the option to send video & audio thru HDMI or video only. Go into the bluray menu settings and see if yours has this option. Change it to video only
